Honours Bachelor of Arts Trinity College University of Toronto in Modern Literature and Theatre. Film apprenticeship in advertising and music videos. Former producer at Art Pictures Group, Russia's first and largest producer of music videos. Directed top ten MTV videos. Former Head of Television for Grey Advertising in Russia and CIS. Senior producer, Saatchi & Saatchi Moscow. Produced critically-acclaimed documentaries for Radio-Canada's Le Point on the Russian bankers, the Kirov ballet and Russian streetlife. Wrote on Russian culture and society for The Economist, Business Central Europe, Canadian Business, The Moscow Times, Vancouver Sun and Dance International.

After writing about dance for many years, Alec is devoting his film knowledge to work specifically with dance film. Last year he completed for Bravo! a highly regarded dance film ALTHEA FRUTEX in collaboration with choreographer D.A. Hoskins and featuring Kristy Kennedy.

This year he is presenting LAPINTHROPE a longer dance film (30 minutes) co-funded by Bravo! and the Canada Council for the Arts, shot entirely on location in and around Toronto. LAPINTHROPE features Austrian dance phenomenon Anna Hein in the choreography of acclaimed Toronto artist Kathleen Rea.

Other recent Canadian projects include music videos for David Deacon and editing on PROM FIGHT: THE MARC HALL STORY (TIFF 2002).
